The Fine Art of Travel Photography

Destination Alaska

Book Today

with Mark Edward Harris
& Special Guest Nick Ut

How does one transcend the “I was here” imagery that is often associated with travel photography and create fine art images of places near and far?

From hundreds of assignments, the dozens of workshops Mark’s taught on the subject, and carefully studying the work of and talking with many of the great globetrotting lensmen and women in the field including special guest Nick Ut, he has developed a methodology, that when applied, should yield impressive and at times spectacular results.

This Destination Alaska workshop explores how to create fine art travel photography – images that go far beyond the “I was here” photograph. Photographers will learn how to create beautiful landscape and wildlife images, as well as powerful environmental portraits and photo essays – pictures that tell a story – in America’s 49th state.

Join Mark Edward Harris and special guest Pulitzer Prize winning photographer Nick Ut for the ultimate Alaska photography workshop hosted by Midnight Son Tours and Stillpoint Lodge.

In 1966 Ut joined the Associated Press (AP) in his home country soon after his older brother Huynh Thanh My, also an AP photographer, was killed in combat. Ut covered the rest of the Vietnam War for AP despite being wounded three times during the conflict.

On June 8, 1972, Ut photographed a severely injured Kim Phuc fleeing down Route 1 after her village of Trang Bang was hit by napalm by South Vietnamese planes. Immediately after making the photo, he rushed her and other children to a hospital, saving Kim’s life. The image won every major photographic award in 1973, including the World Press Photo award, the Pulitzer Prize, the George Polk Memorial Award and the Overseas Press Club award.
